Updating the Navigation to a Double‑Navbar Layout
I’ve recently updated the site’s navigation from a single menu to a new double‑navbar layout. This change makes the site easier to use on all devices, especially mobiles and tablets, and gives me more room to organise Lightroom and Photoshop content clearly.
Why I Switched to a Double Navbar
The original single navigation bar worked well at first, but as the site grew it became cramped. The logo, menu items, and search box were all competing for space, and on smaller screens things started to feel tight. The new double‑navbar layout solves this by separating the navigation into two clear sections:
- Main navigation – logo, primary menu items, and desktop search box
- Sub‑navigation – Lightroom and Photoshop section links, plus the mobile/tablet search box
This keeps everything tidy on desktop while giving me more flexibility for future content.
Better Search on Mobile and Tablets
One of the biggest improvements is how the search box behaves on smaller screens. On desktop, the search box stays in the main navigation where it’s easy to reach. But on mobile and tablets, it now moves to the second navbar. This keeps the layout clean and prevents the main menu from becoming overcrowded when the hamburger menu appears.
The result is a much cleaner mobile experience, with the search box exactly where it needs to be without taking up valuable space in the top bar.
Cleaner Structure and More Room to Grow
The double‑navbar layout also gives me more room to expand the site. Lightroom and Photoshop each have a lot of content, and keeping their links in the second navbar makes it easier to add new sections without redesigning everything again. It also keeps the main navigation focused on the core areas of the site.
A Small Change That Makes a Big Difference
This update might seem small, but it makes the site feel more organised and easier to use. It also sets things up nicely for future additions, including the new blog and other improvements I’m planning.
If you notice anything odd or have suggestions, feel free to let me know — I’m always refining things to make the site as clear and useful as possible.
